FAQ continued
Was it easy convincing people to talk to you ? Not in the beginning. I employed a brilliant researcher, Jeff Silverstein, in Toronto who did a lot of ground breaking work so when I first arrived in Timmins people were expecting me. Once Shania accepted the project and started suggesting people to talk to it did become easier. At one point I was hoping to speak with her sisters Carrie Ann and Jill but unfortunately they changed their minds ... and I'd have given a lot to get an interview with Mutt Lange. Who were the most important interviewees That's a tough one as there were so many. Those who gave the greatest insight into what makes her special were: Mary Bailey, her first manager, John Kim Bell, an early boyfriend and mentor and Helene Bolduc. Her uncle, Don Fraser and Jerry Twain's sister Karen filled in essential details about her early life Who are the most important people in Shania's career? Sharon and Jerry Twain - without her mother Shania might never have left her bedroom. Jerry was the stabilising influence. Mutt Lange - the missing part of her as a songwriter and producer extraordinaire. Without Mutt she would probably just be a successful country singer. Mary Bailey - who never stopped believing and got her a record deal in Nashville. Luke Lewis - the boss of Mercury Nashville who believed Shania could be an international superstar. Jon Landau and Barbara Carr - as managers of Bruce Springsteen, they knew how to take her to a different level. Harry Hinde - who saw her potential at Deerhurst Resort but could never make it happen. Is Shania a nice person? She is the hardest working artist I have ever met. When I started writing the book I had heard she could be quite cold and distant. By the end my respect for her had increased hugely. I also discovered that there is a delightful, warm and generous side to her I'd like to see in person What is your favourite picture of Shania? The original cover shot for the Shania Twain album where she is standing by a fire next to a wolf with snow everywhere . What is the key to Shania? A bonfire in a snow covered forest. Being in the wilderness What makes Shania tick? The music, her mother and Mutt. Tell me more ! Read the book.
I shall be updating this FAQ from time to time. So if there is anything you particularly want to know about how or why I wrote the book email me on author@shaniatwainbiography.com No promises but I'll try. |
