The Rock Chick The Twains moved back to Timmins in 1980 when Jerry decided to start his own tree planting business. Because Timmins was a further three hour drive north this somewhat curtailed Eilleen's semi professional career. She attended Timmins High and Vocational School and worked at the local McDonald's but in the Christmas of 1981 she sang in the local TV station's annual telethon. Back in the summer of 1981 Dave Hartt had corralled four of his friends into the basement of Rick Dion's house on 371 Elm Street South, directly opposite Zudel's Fresh Mart. Dave's original plan was to record two songs as a birthday gift for a friend. He had already booked time at a recording studio down in Toronto in October. As bands do they bickered over their name almost as long as they rehearsed and spun their fantasies of stardom. One night Dave grumbled, "It's a long shot that anything will ever come out of this," bassist Mike Mitchell retorted: "well Longshot's a better name than anything else." It stuck. The boys were still looking for a singer when one night they turned on the TV and saw this young girl with a stunning voice. Unfortunately nobody caught her name and they did not recognise the girl who had served them at McDonald's a few weeks earlier. They did hear the station announcer say she attended Timmins High. When Dave mentioned the girl to his friend Brian Hurst he said he played trumpet with her in the school band. Brian gave Longshot's Toronto tape to Eilleen and a couple of months later she strolled round the corner from the Twain apartment on Balsam South, to meet with Dave who thought his song Take My Hand might work as a duet. He played the piano , she sang the first verse, he sang the second then they harmonised on the chorus. Upstairs Mike Mitchell who had just walked in heard Eilleen singing, ran down the stairs, almost tripping head first on his way. His first breathless words to her were "You're not going anywhere !" She was only 16.
