1. Shania Twain's Come on Over album is now the second biggest seller of all time. It has sold 37 million copies (Thriller has sold 47 million). The Woman In Me has sold over 15 million. Her new album will be released in the spring of 2002.
2. She was born on August 28, 1965 in Windsor , Ontario Canada and christened Eilleen Regina Edwards. Her parents were Clarence and Sharon (nee Morrison) Edwards who divorced when she was a toddler. Sharon remarried Jerry Twain, a full blooded Ojibway Indian, in June 1970.
3. Shania is a real mixture. She is about 40% Irish with a healthy dash of English, Swedish, Scottish blood, leavened with exotic touches of French, Native and Spanish.
4. She has an older half sister, a younger sister and two younger half brothers (one of whom is adopted)
5. Shania's mother's family emigrated to Canada in 1912, her great grandparents arrived just too late to buy tickets on the Titanic.
      6. During the Great Depression her father's father was a bootlegger who brewed moonshine in the forests of Northern Ontario
  7. Shania's hometown is Timmins, a mining town in Northern Ontario, famous for breeding rough tough ice hockey players, not beautiful singers .    
    8. As a child Shania used to play on the Mattagami Indian Reserve where she was taught how to hunt, to snare rabbits and track in the forests.
  9. She gave her first performance on the counter of a restaurant in Timmins when she was three. By the age of 11 she was a professional singing in bars.  
      10. She wrote her first song aged 10. It was called Love Is a Rose.
  11. As a kid, two of Shania's teeth never grew - so she had terrible gaps between them.      
      12. She made her first TV appearance on the Tommy Hunter Show in Canada when she was 12, she was billed as Ellie Twain.
13. During her childhood money was so tight in the Twain home that the milk was rationed and they regularly ate goulash made from bread and milk, as well as moose and beaver meat sent form the reservation.  
      14. When the family went camping Jerry only took flour and sugar as the kids were supposed to catch all their own food.
15. As a teenager Shania worked in the bush planting trees, fighting off bugs so big they can stun a moose.    
         
  16. In her first band Longshot she wore spandex trousers, a head band and had a dreadful perm. The drummer was her first serious boyfriend.  
      17. As a teenager she could not hold her booze, once when drinking with two friends she passed out after only two beers.  
  18. To support herself in Toronto she worked as a waitress, in a supermarket and for a computer company.  
 
      19. In 1987 she performed with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra in a benefit for Native Canadians organised by her then boyfriend.  
20. When Shania was 22 Sharon and Jerry were killed in a car crash. She took a job in the Viva Vegas revue at the Deerhurst holiday resort and raised her two half brothers until after they left school.
